By Michelle Nicolosi, The Register Mind over Matter Hypnotists say suggestions can get enough couch potatoes moving. "It
was almost like an out-of -body experience. It's hard to recall what he said.
I don't know how it works, but I I do know I'm seeing some results." Heintz is one of a growing number of weight-loss clients who have stopped asking hypnotists to make them stop eating. Instead, they're asking for hypnotic suggestions that will help them stick with an exercise program. "It's been blossoming, " Moss said, "People have rejected diets and are realizing that exercise is probably the most important factor to long-term weight control and that makes you less likely to have a heart attack and more likely to live longer." While no one's studied whether hypnotherapy helps reluctant exercisers stick with a program, local therapists and patients said they've seen good results. Hypnotic suggestion won't work on determined couch potatoes, experts said. If you don't want to exercise, hypnosis isn't going to change anything. But "for people who want to go out and walk and jog but just can't get up the energy to do it, three to four sessions can be very effective ," Mission Viejo hypnotherapist, Marilyn Brame, said. Laguna Beach resident Casy MacKenzie, 53, said a few sessions in March helped her get back on her daily walking program. "I had been walking every day for about three years," MacKenzie said. "Then I moved, I'm in school and I work, there was a death in the family--it was a lot of things. I was exhausted. I didn't have the time. I just didn't feel like it." Hypnotist, Moss, sat MacKenzie down for about an hour, asking her first what she wanted to accomplish and then telling her, "You can do it. When you don't want to do it, do it anyway. You'll be glad you did. You'll feel great." The sessions were the kick she needed to get going. "It's been really successful," said MacKenzie, now back to walking more than two miles a day. "You just feel compelled to do it. I don't have any reluctance at all anymore. It really helps." Marathoner, Ginger Tangedal, said she might never have started her running program without hypnotic suggestions. Back to Articles | ||||

On Smoking Cessation Continued..... Will I be under your control? No, not a all. That occurs only in the movies. In hypnosis the client and therapist join forces and employ hypnotic suggestion to help the client develop greater self-control. How does hypnosis work with smoking and weight loss? With smoking, your decision to quit is deeply reinforced and, in most cases, withdrawals are completely eliminated. This is an area in which hypnotherapy is enormously successful! With weight, we take a "behavior modification" approach, helping you assert control over your eating habits. While smoking cessation and weight control constitute a majority of Moss's practice, he also addresses fears and phobias. Moss explains that the state of hypnosis offers an extraordinary opportunity to affect positive changes, to help one achieve goals, break bad habits and build self-confidence. Many patients are referred to Moss by medical doctors, dentists, psychiatrists and psychologists. Back to Articles
